Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning

At our center, we believe that some of the most powerful learning happens outside the walls of a classroom. Our Outdoor Learning programs are designed specifically for children with autism, combining nature-based exploration with hands-on, sensory-rich experiences that support growth in a calm, natural environment.

Who Can Benefit?

Being outdoors can help children with autism feel more relaxed and focused. We use this setting to work on key developmental areas through guided play, movement, and structured activities, including:

Social skills

Practicing turn-taking, teamwork, and communication during group games and nature-based activities.

Sensory regulation

Helping children manage sensory input through natural textures, sounds, and movement in a low-stress setting

Gross motor development

Encouraging physical activity like climbing, running, and balancing to improve strength and coordination

Following routines and instruction

Building flexibility and independence through outdoor tasks and transitions

Emotional regulation

Using nature as a calming space to learn coping strategies and build resilience

Exploration and curiosity

Sparking creativity and learning through outdoor crafts, scavenger hunts, gardening, and nature walks

Our trained staff guide each session with care and intention, ensuring that activities are tailored to your child’s goals, interests, and comfort level. Outdoor Learning can be part of your child’s ABA, OT, or group program or a wonderful stand-alone experience that supports well-being and connection.
